Gioia Sugared Almonds

Gioia is a new start-up, Italian-inspired sugared almond brand based in Vancouver. The brand is looking to market the popular Italian treats with a modern twist, aiming to appeal to the younger generations through aesthetic, minimalist packaging.
Market Trends
Usually, sugared almond treats (or, “confetti” traditionally), are packaged extravagantly with bright, royal colors and foil accents. While this is on brand as they are typically gifted as wedding or party favors, the current market favors minimal, simple designs.
There is also a pattern in modern packaging where the less there is on a package the more the product costs; in fact, it’s safe to say any minimal packaging usually means a more luxurious quality.
Keeping this in mind, the main challenge was to incorporate this minimal aesthetic without taking away from the celebratory aesthetic and reflecting the Italian tradition in the design.
Typography
The font were chosen with the goal of creating a luxurious, minimalist vibe for the product packaging.
The main logo uses the typeface “Didona Regular” in lowercase; this font is perfect for the brand as it reflects the modernity and elegancy of the brand with its soft, rounded serifs. In short, the font is a perfect blend of traditionalistic aesthetics and modern beauty, much like the brand itself.
All other text is written in “Proba Pro Light”, which is the perfect effortless, simple typeface that reflects the contemporaneity of the brand without taking away from the other beautiful design aspects.
Color Palette
The goals of this package design is to reflect the flavor of the almonds in the color while maintaining the luxurious simplicity of the packaging. Because sugared almonds are typically dipped in light colored sugar, such as white, pastel colors were chosen in order to continue this trend of a lighter color palette.
